April: Birth

Spring

-April-

Birth

Concepts to focus on: The process of becoming is finding completion in Birth. The journey of birth is accentuated with feelings of breathing out after a confinement: seeing the light clearly after the birth, experiencing the joy of the world around, seeing things for the first time, feeling for the first time. Many of the children will be experiencing things literally for the first time- the flowers, the buds, the rains, and the sun. The older children will be rediscovering the joys of spring as the world around emerges in brilliance and radiance.

Colors: Spring is a time for all colors to show, pastels and brights with lots of green.

Activities / Ideas: Now is a good time to tell birth stories. Celebrate the joys and excitement of birth. The birth of a tree in bloom, or just getting its leaves. The upcoming birth of a sibling, remembering your child’s birth or the birth of someone close to you, or an animal friend. All of these make great stories to share, songs to sing, or just happy feelings in the remembering. Maybe you could ask the children to tell you the stories of their birth. Where were you born? How do you think you felt when you saw your mama or papa for the first time? Spend time outside noticing the re-birth of the world in spring time, or enjoying any new babies at school. Choose stories about newness, birth, and celebration. Now is the time for the outbreath after the inbreath of winter, and we can all be outside enjoying it. Remember the birth of a seed is in its sprouting, and use the garden with the children now to stage mini births as you plant seeds and celebrate the sprout.
