March: Transformation

Spring

-March-

Transformation

Concepts to focus on: As the change from winter to spring becomes more visible, we can clearly see the principles of TRANSFORMATION. Different from becoming, TRANSFORMATION is more dramatic. We can see bulbs coming up, root TRANSFORMED in to flower. Our gardens have been TRANSFORMED by rain and we are all different after the rain and cold of winter. We are not out of winter yet, however, and the being drawn in -need for cozy space- is still there.

Colors: We are almost entirely through black, except in the gray. Green and lots of it! The pastels should be nearly gone now. But using the brightest colors and offering white is a good idea, creating a blend of pastels and bright. All colors, more complex now. Remember teal, magenta, etc.

Ideas: Remember that transformation is occurring. This miracle that is spring will touch you deeply if you let it, and that will be well brought into the classroom. Planting and watering, rearranging our van as the days get longer and warmer. Switch napping blankets from wool to cotton. Think of transforming relationships- is there a place you’re stuck? Is there room for growth? Notice with the children their own growth, remember what they were capable of in the beginning and what they’re capable of now. Transform yourself. Talk about change in group times, remember change as you plan activities.
