May: Growth

Spring in to Summer

-May-

Growth

Concepts to focus on: May is a time of growth and accomplishment. We have accomplished much in the last nine months, and grown. This is a time for stillness and looking back. Notice how much the garden has grown, notice how much the children have grown, notice how the games have evolved, and the friendships have deepened.

Colors: The colors are beginning to mute a bit. The greens are becoming darker, the colors less vivid (just a little, not pastel). We are still using all of the colors, using black sparingly.

Activity ideas: Maybe we could look at the photos from last year, see what we have done and how we have changed. Now is a good time to notice how the plants have grown, the tadpoles and toe-biters in the creek, the sound of baby birds in their nests. If you took measurements of their children at the beginning of the year, measure again and see how they’ve grown! Now is a good time for activities that are about change. Add water to something usually dry and see what happens, plant beans in glass jars and watch the rapid transformation, do cooking activities, experiment.
