Autumn
-October-
Success
Concepts to focus on: Now we are getting a little more comfortable together, and the agreements are clear. We can begin to stretch out a bit more and have our last outbreath before the in breath of winter. The last of the harvest is on the vines, and all will be ready before long. The days are shortening quickly now, and Halloween looms before us. Avoid scary stories of witches and goblins, remember to read The Spider and The Fly. Do notice the wind and he chill in the air. Demonstrate our strength and warmth as we work together. The garden should be getting ready for planting again, and the children can feel the earth under them as they hoe and dig. Soak up the sun now- it will be dark soon.
Colors: Brown is in every shade now. Red is fading into orange, orange in to yellow. Add some black to the colors, to darken them and give them depth. Very little green. Avoid blues and purples for now. Use bright colors for an occasional splash.
Ideas: Basically, October is pumpkin month! We will travel to a pumpkin patch early on so we can plan numerous activities: Washing pumpkins, carving pumpkins, eating pumpkins, baking and eating the seeds, painting pumpkins. We will work with our “harvest” throughout the month. Read books about autumn and preparing for winter. Plan our own costume parade, make crowns, paint faces. Notice the Wind!
