December: Preparation/ Introspection

Winter

-December-

Preparation/ Introspection

Concepts to focus on: Tye darkness is here, the days are short and cold, the light is always indirect. Prepare warmth within the environment, build houses out of big boxes, hay bales, etc. Notice the withdrawal of much of nature. Watch the trees change and sleep. Notice the animals get fluffier. Create a safe space around you, exuding for the children warmth and surety in their survival. Cold and dark bring up deeply rooted fears, be a catalyst for assurance and warmth within each and every child.

Colors: Brown is darker, use lots of black. Deep Red and Grern and Purple, the colors of fire are good. Begin using yellow and white sparingly.

Ideas: The birds need us now, as their resources become more limited! Make pine cone bird feeders, and other sorts. Focus on movement and fantasy play as we spend more time indoors. Select stories of overcoming dangers and obstacles (cold dark). Plant winter crops in the garden. Give puppet shows and leave them available for the children to imitate or create new ones.
